Freewheel would like to congratulate our resident women’s offroad cycling advocate and instructor extraordinaire, Mari Evans, for being selected for Trek’s new international Women’s Advocate Program. The women’s cycling community continues to grow everyday thanks to advocacy and coaching from riders like Mari. The Trek Women’s Advocate Program aims to grow women’s offroad cycling and further build the relationship between shops and riders through organizing rides, women’s cycling events, and clinics throughout North America. Trek Women’s Advocates will be stimulating relevant discussion on social media to spread the word about how awesome more women riding mountain bikes can be.
Avid women mountain bikers from all over North America applied to participate in Trek’s advocacy program, and of the 250 applicants, 55 were chosen for their exceptional involvement in their local cycling community, as well as their strong leadership and infectiously positive personalities. Local off-road riders who have met and ridden with Mari over the past 15 years know she is well qualified for this expanded cycling advocacy role. Many of you met her through our very own Women’s Learn-to-MTB Weekend events.
As part of the program, Mari has been invited to Trek headquarters in Waterloo, WI to experience the culture that has made Trek the company that it is today. We think she’ll fit in perfectly! Freewheel Cycle and Trek are both excited to see the Trek Women’s Advocate Program in action. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for news about upcoming women’s social rides, events and clinics.
If you have visited us lately, you’ll have noticed the renovations to our store that are under way. Due to factors outside our control, we were unable to perform these renovations during the slower winter season, and construction got pushed into the spring. Do not fear, as we will remain open while renovating to satisfy all of your bicycle related needs!
We’re pretty excited about the 2016 Opus Allegro series here at Freewheel. It is built with comfort and speed in mind, making it perfect for crushing kilometer after kilometer of open roads. The 28c tires roll comfortably and efficiently on pavement, but also open up tons of gravel road options. The Allegro is available in 3 different specs, all sharing the same carbon frame to suit your needs and budget. The progressive geometry allows for many versatile fitting, meaning it’s easy to tune the Allegro to your riding style. Visit us at Freewheel for a fitting and test ride! We’ll help you find the perfect road bike.
You can check out the full review of the Opus Allegro 2 at Canadian Cyclist.
What began in Toronto as a Bike to Work Day celebration in 1989 has evolved to become one of the largest events of its kind in Canada and is now celebrated across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Bike Month brings together families, artists, commuters and community groups to promote cycling at hundreds of events all month long.
Bike Month 2015 is supported across the GTHA by Smart Commute – a program of Metrolinx, and locally by The City of Toronto, The City of Mississauga, The City of Hamilton, The City of Burlington, The Region of Peel, York Region, and Durham Region.
This coming Monday, February 16, 2015 is Family Day. Since it is Family Day Freewheel Cycle will be closed so that we all can spend time with family (bikes are family, right? Right? Someone?) Just look at that picture, you could be having the same Family Day fun! No, this photo was not taken on family day, and none of said riders are technically family and it is much more winter out there than this photo but, we want you (yes you, I’m talking directly to you Bob… Sarah? I’m not very good at this mind reading thing…) to get out there and enjoy a day with your family too. We will open again for regular hours on Tuesday, February 17, 2015!
Because of the unbelievable amount of snow we have received Freewheel will be closed for the day, Monday, February 2, 2015. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, unless the snowpocalypse continues!
Due to a national weather alert Freewheel Cycle will be closing early on Sunday 02 February 2015. Some reports suggest as much as 15-25cm of snow. Our store will close by 2:00pm
Please remain indoors, if possible. Your safety is, and always has been, our primary concern.
